Wednesdays Word......Remind Me

A lot of times I don't exactly have an idea of what I'm going to share on my blog until it just happens and today was no different. I felt no inspiration all day (plus I was working so it would have been impossible to blog anyways.....right) and then I pulled into our church parking lot for our Wednesday night family night and was just about to shut the van off when on the radio they introduced a song. I hadn't heard it before and generally I pride myself in knowing about a band or artist before everyone else so I'm not "the bandwagon jumper". So I sat and listened. By the end of the song I was singing along and it was then that I knew I had to introduce you all to Jason Gray. But first I got on my phone and punched up YouTube and found the video which made the song even more fitting and then when reading up on Jason and finding out he had a stuttering problem as a kid and grew up in an abusive home then throw in my love of a great acoustic guitar sound and that did it for me.

Everyone struggles at times with various things in this life; the biggest difference just depends if we make ourselves vulnerable enough to let others know; and not just what we're going through but what we've been through. We sometimes bury ourselves with meaningless junk and forget who we are or more importantly whose we are. While opening up and humbling ourselves like that may be one of the most difficult things to do generally it's not even to let anyone know we need help but just maybe to let them others know they're not alone in their darkness, pity, guilt, anger, shame...what ever it is. The greatest gift we can share with others is our own personal testimony. I'm talking the whole thing....not just the glorious moment we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior because being a Christian isn't all butterflies and prancing ponies. Jesus warned us we would have trouble in this world but also that he has overcome the world. We are who we are for a reason; for a purpose. So don't be ashamed just be honest and remember...it's who you are.

When I lose My way,

And I forget my name,
Remind me who I am.
In the mirror all I see,
Is who I don't wanna be,
Remind me who I am.
In the loneliest places,
When I can't remember what grace is.

Tell me once again who I am to you.
Who I am to you.
Tell me lest I forget who I am to you.
That I belong to you.
To you.

When my heart is like a stone,
And I'm running far from home,
Remind me who I am.
When I can't receive your love,
Afraid I'll never be enough,

Remind me who I am.
If I'm your beloved,
Can you help me believe it.

Tell me once again who I am to you.
Who I am to you, Woh.
Tell me lest I forget who I am to you.
That I belong to you.
To you.
I'm the one you love,
I'm the one you love,
That will be enough,
I'm the one you love.

Tell me once again who I am to you.
Who I am to you.
Tell me lest I forget who I am to you.
That I belong to you, Woh.
To you.

Wednesdays Word.....Shine

Well in honor of The David Crowder Band's final album being released yesterday (it is awesome by the way and I'm still holding out hope they're just punking us for some big reality TV show) I wanted to share one of my favorite songs with you and if the DCB is new to you then introduce you to their musical genius. If you haven't heard of them or listened to them let me try to categorize their musical style for you. I'd have to say it's a rocking alternative mix of blue grassy funk with worship overtones. How's that for saying they have a diverse style that varies from song to song and album to album. And technically you can't go wrong with a band that loves to incorporate the classic 80's techno keytar (the strap on guitar like keyboard) and a robot drummer.

So now for the hard part...which song & which video? Do I go with one that is lyrically challenging, musically stimulating and should it be possibly something mellow or one to get you up and dancing or just  find one that lands somewhere in the middle that is a combination of everything? I finally decided to go with SMS (Shine) in which the video shows a glimpse of their creative side. The song is based on Mathew 5:16  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven and one of everyone's favorite songs as a kid..."I'm gonna let it shine". It always amazes how different people's faith shines through their circumstances. Some of us have gone through the valley and have drawn closer to God during that experience. Being stuck in the midst of those dark times and having only come out of that place because His light was all we could see and it guided us back onto the proper path so that way we could share our experience and testimony with others. Because even though our individual journeys are all unique; our paths still all cross and somewhere someone else is exactly where you were; needing just the slightest glimmer of hope which can be shown to them through you by the grace of God.

Send me a sign
A hint, O whisper
Fill me with life
'Cause I am listening

Come break the quiet
Breathe your awakening
Bring me the light
'Cause I am fading

Surround me with the rush of angels' wings

Shine Your light so I can see You
Pull me up, I need to be near You
Hold me, I need to feel loved
Can You overcome this heart that's overcome?

You sent a sign
The hint, O whisper
Human, divine
Everyone is listening

Death laid low
Quiet in the night is stirring

All around the rush of angels

O the wonder of the greatest love has come

Shine Your light so all can see it
Lifted up, 'cause the whole world needs it
Love has come, what joy to hear it
He has overcome, He has overcome
