World Series/Josh Hamilton/Cyclones

Let me preface this in that I am a sports junky. Yes there I admitted it. How it happened I don't know because no one else in my family follows/cares about any sports other than maybe 1 uncle and not the crazy weird one we all have; though he is a Chiefs fan if that counts. But I do blame him for cursing me and now my kids into becoming Cubs fans. But before I get any further...how bout them Cyclones and their win over the Longhorns!! Never thought I'd see that this life time....which means there is hope for my Cubbies!!!
I ran across this post in a blog that I follow and considering the World Series is about to start in a couple days I thought it to be very relevant since Josh Hamilton plays for the Texas Rangers who against great odds made it this far and even though the ratings will struggle due to the mighty Yankees not being apart of it and the NFL's decision to not shy away from playing head to head on Sunday night it should still be a good series and considering Josh's back story it makes his message all the more powerful. You see because in a day and age when every player comes up to bat to his favorite gangster rap song despite never having stepped foot in the hood before in his life or possibly to some hard core heavy metal thrash or most likely depending on what country they are from you would here some techno driven pop/salsa/reggae but Josh Hamilton comes to the plate to Christian music. Before you brush this off as another athlete thanking God after he scores when the sideline reporter is in his face or that he's another Tim Tebow you need to know a little about the guy. I remember reading an ESPN the Magazine article a few years ago thinking why do I know this guy then it dawned on me....Cubs had picked him up in the Rule 5 draft (I'll discuss this in some later useless sports knowledge blog post) and he was the #1 player out of high school years before that. But what I remember to this day is the opening line of the article "To let you know how far I've come, let me tell you where I've been." Which in my eyes should be every Christian's motto. I have since read his book and coming from my semi-sheltered life I am pretty much shocked to see him go from can't miss sure fire possibly best baseball player in years to his meteoric crash to rock bottom to his saving grace moment and his subsequent faith journey to where he is at today. Even though I don't have a team in the fall classic and probably never will; this year I will be pulling for the Texas Rangers and Josh Hamilton.
